"THE MATRIARCH'S SIGNATURE"

FRACTURED FAMILY
The sample of the matriarch's autograph. This specimen was made available by Nneka. The matriarch appended it on the package she sent her via Bose(Vicky) sometime. According to three of her beneficiaries, similar signature corresponded with the one she also appended on her will, but Orisa and Ebere consciously and deliberately chose to dispute its authenticity or veracity.

   "THE MATRIARCH'S SIGNATURE"

As the day of reading the matriarch's will slowly approached, obvious sense of uneasiness washed over all persons involved. They all wondered aloud what its contents would be.

At the probate section of the Umuahia high court, Auntie Eji, Uncle Orisa,  Auntie Ebby,  Da Alice,  Adaeze and Victoria Chief's wife all took their seats and waited with bated breath for the registrar's instructions.

The atmosphere was maliciously tensed and suffocating among persons of the same family who were supposed to  be united and speak with one voice. But unfortunately, they were at one another's throats for the matriarch's legacies .

The registrar cross-checked her list to ensure that all that were seated were the invitees. During this examination it was discovered that Victoria was not supposed to be part of the session. She was asked to leave the registrar's office.
She shamefully took her leave for her maiden home.

Before the reading of the will, all the persons present were shown the sealed envelope which enclosed the document and this was to indicate the integrity of the will. Thereafter it was ripped through and its content was read aloud before and to their hearing.

The expected happened when they were shown the document for the confirmation of the matriarch's autograph. Da Alice said she did not know mama's signature. Auntie Eji and Adaeze confirmed that the signature on the document was the matriarch's. But  Auntie Ebby and Uncle Orisa said knowingly that it was not her signature.

In their words,

Adaeze, "It is my grandma's signature".
Da Alice,  "I do not know her signature".
Auntie Ebby,  " It is not her signature".
Uncle Orisa,  "It is not her signature".
Auntie Eji,  "It is mama's signature."

Each person was handed down a facsimile copy of the legal document.

So, the will was finally read and the controversy surrounding who inherits the matriarch's home was once and for all put  to rest as both the de jure and de facto beneficiaries were explicitly stated in the matriarch's testament.
