"THE MATRIARCH'S WELFARE "

            FRACTURED FAMILY

THE MATRIARCH'S DECLARATION"

The matriarch's decision and determination to hold onto her autonomy even in her old age was not without resentment from some family members who thought she should have long abdicated her throne. But for her, her advancement in age did not  impact her mental capacity or power of reasoning.

Her decision to have her grandchildren handle her welfare in the later phase of her life  was a thunderbolt to some of her children. This decision which was a culmination of long-held resentments  was not without direful consequences from some of her children.

Her resolve was obviously questioned and  misunderstood. It was not only attributed to  alzheimer's but also to the undue influence of other family members who were perceived as infidels to the doctorine of the power base within the family.

One of her children out of frustration and annoyance challenged her decision in writing during which he questioned his paternity, the legality of his  membership of the family and painfully so his patrimony if there was any.

An emergency meeting was summoned at the matriarch's home during which the aboved raised questions were carefully and clearly answered.

The paternity, the legality of family's membership and  the heritage from the father's side were once and for all put to rest. But the outcome of the meeting did not heal the wound which its sore kept being cancerous, and influencing events within the family till the matriarch's death.

Well, the very affected figure here was not watchful enough to discern why he lost what was due to him. For a bystander from a vantage point, it was nothing but pride and unde influence of a bad wife.
