"CULTURE IS A SHAMELESS DONKEY"

FRACTURED FAMILY                        " CULTURE IS A  SHAMELESS                            DONKEY"                                 CULTURE IS A SHAMELESS DONKEY  Edward Burnett Tylor defined culture as "that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society". From the foregoing, it is very clear that culture is an integral aspect of our entire existence- the fabric of our society. It permeates every nook and cranny of our lives. It forms the bedrock of human society. It is our folklore, music, mode of dressing, foods, religion, education, architecture, marriage. It is also a significant source of common laws. It has a tremendous impact on family dynamics. ...

"POURING OF WATER ON AN OCEAN"

Image
" POURING OF WATER ON AN OCEAN " The ocean, a vast and seemingly insatiable body of water, receives the flow of rivers, lakes, and streams, yet its thirst remains unquenchable. This endless thirst is a metaphor for excessive materialism and avarice. The ocean's wealth grows as it accumulates the waters of others, leaving them drained and parched. Similarly, in our family's dynamics, those who already possess more resources (the ocean) continue to accumulate wealth and power, while those who have less (the rivers, lakes, and streams) are left to struggle. Despite their abundance, the ocean-like individuals remain insatiable, ignoring the needs of others and perpetuating imbalance. I was unwittingly misled to contribute to this imbalance, driven by my belief in the unity and bonds that I thought existed within our family. However, I now realize that this unity was merely an illusion. My efforts, though well-intentioned, ultimately fed i...

"THE SALE OF BIRTHRIGHT AND CRYING WOLF, WHEN THERE IS NONE "

FRACTURED FAMILY THE SALE OF BIRTHRIGHT AND CRYING WOLF,WHEN THERE IS NONE " My brother Ikechi,  aka Honorable Chris bemoaned his recent state of living,  blaming it on the family dynamics. On the contrary, I responded with this write up below; "With all due respect, Honorable Chris. This prefix: honorable to your name has to be really honorable. Just remain rather very honorable, sir. For the purposes of better understanding and clarity, let us get to the core of the matter. Our granny knew full well that by birth, you were her son's bona fide first child. Similarly, it was clear that the ancestral land and house would be yours if our father joined his ancestors. It was crystal clear there was no love lost between you and our father. You diligently served him, doing his laundry and ferrying his nourishments from granny to him. You only laundered your clothing with the dirty water after washing his. He was not a perfect husband or father, but he made amends where n...

"GUILTY HEARTS"

Image
FRACTURED FAMILY  "Guilty hearts" No volume of emotional blackmail or mawkish story will cleanse the guilty of their guilt enveloped in false innocence. It is only accepting their wrongs, humbling themselves, being remorseful, sincerely asking for forgiveness and embracing the path to reconciliation and peace is their savior . Just dismount that high horse! The pen will always be mightier than the sword, just take it to the bank. This is where truth, facts and sincerity rule over emotions, sympathy, culture, age and seniority. Cultural hangovers have continue to ruin families. Fathers and mothers offend their children, and still demand apologies from them. What did the holy book say about relationship between parents and their children? " Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord". "Children...

"IN THE MATRIARCH'S WORDS"

Image
FRACTURED FAMILY   Her painful cry and frustration in the days preceding her death. In her own very diction: " Give me unfettered access to my own money, and let me enjoy it while I still have breath of life in me". "My grandchildren and great grandchildren will be the ones to bury me, when I join my ancestors. One of my dying wishes will be for them to have unfettered access to my apparels' chest, and select any wrap of their choices. They should mourn and dance to my memory and honor, and in turn I will be waving my hands from God's bosom, bidding them farewell". "Should they have any event or occasion, my compound should be made available to them to prepare their foods and host their  guests.  In the event of their being in Umuahia, and if they wish to pass the night there, my home is always available to them". "My home should be a legacy of connection and bond between me and them forever, there my remains will lie in state and thereafter b...

"THE IMPACT OF FIRST IMPRESSIONS, PRECONCEPTIONS, PREJUDICES, AND BIASES ON FAMILY DYNAMICS."

Image
FRACTURED FAMILY THE IMPACT OF FIRST IMPRESSIONS , PRECONCEPTIONS, PREJUDICES, AND BIASES ON FAMILY DYNAMICS First impressions, preconceptions, prejudices, and biases significantly influence our decisions and interactions in daily life, affecting family dynamics either positively or negatively. Understanding these concepts is crucial for appreciating their roles in personal relationships. * FIRST IMPRESSION* A first impression is the initial opinion formed about someone upon meeting them. It is often based on limited information, such as appearance, body language, and initial words or actions. First impressions can be subjective, shaped by individual experiences, biases, and expectations. While they can be lasting, they can also be modified as more information becomes available. * PRECONCEPTION* Preconception refers to an idea or opinion formed before having sufficient information or evidence. It leads to faulty and...
